Refurbishment of a 1980’s building to upgrade thermal performance, improve ventilation and resolve internal planning issues. We believe that tackling the problems of existing building stock is just as important as creating new designs.
The BMC is a 2 storey brick building containing offices, small teaching and meeting spaces and a lecture theatre. Refurbished in two, 3 months phases to fit around term times and student use, interior spaces were re-arranged to allow for new meeting pods, offices and reception spaces.
Roof lights and wind catchers were installed to increase natural levels of light and ventilation to the core of the building. A large window was installed to a new meeting room to afford views over the lake at the heart of the western campus
A 2 storey draft lobby was added to ensure heat retention in winter months and solar shading was wrapped around the building to reduce over heating through the summer.
