OXTON HOUSE

In 2017 ABW achieved planning consent for a contemporary new build home in Oxton, Wirral. The house replaced a Victorian workshop within the grounds of the client's existing home.

Constrained by neighbouring houses, the building has a relatively narrow plan complimented by the top lit core of the house. This core forms an integral part of the open plan living at ground floor level, giving an apparent generosity of space that belies the actual plan area.

The two storey section house is set back from the road to overlook an enclosed private garden space to the front.

Externally, the objective was to keep the height of the building below its neighbours and to break up the form of the building to reduce the apparent scale. This was addressed through the design of the roof and use of contrasting materials.
