STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

ABW were invited to submit a scheme into a competition, refurbishing student accommodation within an early 20th century campus building.

The brief was to convert existing office space and refurbishing existing accommodation to a new higher standard while the ground floor offices remained in use. The programme was to be very tight.

A ‘maisonette’ style layout was proposed, with the existing halls converted into home style units with four to six bedrooms to one kitchen and dining area.

To address the tight programme; prefabricated en-suite bathroom pods were proposed to cut onsite construction time, these pods were designed to fit through the existing openings onsite. Similarly the bedroom fit out was to be manufactured off site to meet the demands of the proposed programme. Fixtures and fittings, lighting and power were integrated into the furniture to aid install time.
